Stay Tuned
By the way, the 25th menu of The Night of The Adeaters is loaded with public awareness campaigns... & great surprises. A unique and tasty program is awaiting all Adeaters of Kuwait. Just hope that censorship doesn't knock it all. Another thing is sure, and established Adeaters have inherited an important habit: "The Night" with no clappers ain't one! It goes hand in hand. Clapping to the ads we like, to the music that appeals to us, booing the ones that we believe missed the point, etc. is an intrinsic part of this international show. THE NIGHT OF THE ADEATERS by the French Chef, Jean Marie BOURSICOT is scheduled for February 20-21, 2006- Shaab Cinema. Tickets will be sold at Virgin Megastore starting Feb. 1st. A plus tard Crocodile!
Till then, search for the big idea, urging your imagination to guide you further -or ease yourself and wait till February’s screening where you will join "the Big Idea Planet & Friends” for a mind-blowing experience.
Keep it unreal and Stay tuned!

KILLER BURGERS
BURGER KING Restaurants Celebrate Universal Picture’s King Kong with One of the Biggest Burgers in Company History It seems that tobacco companies are not the only companies that are trying to kill their customers. Burger King has added its biggest burger ever as part of a promotional tie with the movie King Kong. The new triple burger-the TRIPLE WHOPPER with cheese sandwich, which the company describes as a sandwich that will “satisfy even Kong-sized craving,” contains three-fourths of a pound of beef and more than 1,400 calories. That’s enough calories to sustain a person for an entire day and enough to keep three third-world children alive for another day. Then, there’s the 42-ounce chocolate banana milkshakes that have been introduced as part of the promotion. Are we that insensitive to the warning about gluttony in the Biblical list of the seven deadly sins? P.S.: Btw, King Kong opened in theaters worldwide on Dec. 14, 2005.

The site is conceived as an hotel, and visitors are invited to explore the rooms to discover what the silhouettes are doing and, of course, the different Trojan condoms available.

CHEERS
says goodbye to TVCs
In the UK Heineken has decided to shift its £6.5m advertising budget away from TV and rather invest in sports sponsorships and point-of-sale promotions.
Rob Marijnen, managing director of Heineken UK explains on Times Online:
"The enormously cluttered environment in TV ads makes it difficult to make standout ads. It's also very expensive and it's questionable as to its effectiveness."
Media fragmentation makes it difficult to target Heineken's core market (18 to 26 years old) through TV ads and buying airtime is getting more and more expensive. These are basically the reasons that convinced the Dutch brand to look for new solutions in advertising.

Not enough poetry
You likely aren't familiar with the latest French addition to the culture jamming lexicon: barbouilleurs. Literally translated as "scribblers", this is the nom de guerre given to activists in France's growing legion of cultural revolutionaries. It all began in October of 2003 when people began painting slogans like "Advertising Kills" and "Too many things, not enough poetry" on billboards and public transit signs across Paris. In one case, a photo of Salvador Dali was plastered over an ad. The city's rapid transit agency, RATP, tried to stem the tide by opening up a handful of billboards to "free expression" for a period of a whopping ten days. But it was a token effort in the shadow of legal proceedings that RATP and Métrobus, the company responsible for the ads, had launched to recoup 922,000 Euros in damage costs from 62 of the commando graffiti artists caught redhanded. The French public, however, chose to back the freedom of expression fighters, some of whom escaped punishment using the argument that the ads were already covered in graffitti by the time they got around to defacing them. As a result, there was no shortage of sympathizers lining up to help defray the costs of the nine defendants who were eventually convicted and forced to pay between 400 Euros and 2,000 Euros in fine. Métrobus president Gérard Unger called it a victory, but it was clear the advertising industry has suffered a major setback. Who says the French always give up without a fight?

Jean Marie & the Cinémathèque
Tarek Sultan, Advertising Manager of Al Qabas newspaper with Jean Marie Boursicot, creator of The Night of The Adeaters in Kuwait, Feb. 2005
It all started at 10! After having discovered his first treasure, a big poster lauding the merits of Gervais ice cream, he decided to become the Ali Baba of Advertising. The operator of Ciné Madeleine in Paris, who found this kid loveable, used to give him copies of candies' commercials as Krema sweets, Miko ice cream.. The embryo of a collection was born. He rifled the waste cans. Not just any ones! Those of film distributors of the Boulevard Longchamps who carelessly unaware, discarded trailers and advertisng films. By accumulating his "treasures", he mixed his passion for posters and advertising with that for Cinema, without imagining, at that time, turning his passion into a business.
After his college years, he emerged at Publicis in 1978. There, he discovered that, surprisingly, no one keeps the commercial spots. Neither advertisers, nor agencies nor the producers! Jean Marie Boursicot decided to create the Cinemathèque, a library of advertising films that encompasses today over 700 000 TV commercials.

LA NUIT...
La Nuit des Publivores, by Jean Marie Boursicot, is a night that gives you glimpses into the humour, the concerns, the mentality, the culture, and above all the creativity of the various countries from which these ads originate. It is a night full of fun of course and definitely a mind-expanding, inspirational experience. In addition to being a night of quality entertainment, where ART MEETS ADVERTISING & ADVERTISING BECOMES CINEMA, it also has the power to revive creative enthusiasm and the quest for creating kick ass work..
